Charlie McKeeman posted on Facebook that he is not returning for his Senior year. My understanding is that was not happy with how he was utilized, but concussion concerns were key factor. He posted a highlight video.

Heard St. Laurent took a hike also.
Both good players, not great. McKeenans lament ties into the crummy play calling.
However, put them in same boat as Catalina last year.
If do not want to be here-better off without them.

I think Thorr will rectify the playcalling issues...or he should....or Fleming could take a hike after next season......he's got to hire a competent OC

The fact there is no OC on a Division 1 football team is mind boggling.

I'm assuming that McKeeman is looking to transfer as a graduate senior?

I am from Charlie's hometown - Portsmouth- word is that he was definitely thinking transfer but the concussion situation is real and feels it is time to walk away. The video is great but you can see why he is concerned about concussions.

I have heard that numerous other football players are opting out of URI for next season. Several starters and key contributors. Sure more scholarships open up - but this is not a good trend.

What are there reasons for leaving?

No single reason. For the the 5th year players it seems there is a sense or an understanding that their roles would be diminished. I can understand that, though it definitely impacts depth. I am more concerned about several players that I heard are leaving who are bigger contributors and would be expected to do the same next year. Mostly I think that losing takes its toll on the players and football is no longer important to them or there are better opportunities elsewhere. Training and practicing football is a rough grind , with only 11-12 fun days a year(games). 1 or 2 wins a year just doesn"t cut it.

Program has too much attrition.

Those leaving are: Steinmetz, 3 year starting right tackle, Derrick Homes starting DE, Nate Holmes backup TE and special teams, James Caparell backup QB, Anthony St. Laurent starting DL, Justin Rohrwasser kicker, Brian Collins special teams, Myles Ross, freshman DB. Others?

Do we have a spot for commitments? 6'3 QB Isaiah Robinson of St. Frances in Baltimore has committed to Coach Flem and the Rams. He previously played at Avalon before transferring to St. Frances and making the MIAA All-Conference team. Seems to have legit press clippings, although as we've seen QB can be a tough spot to come in and compete at as a freshman (even as a red-shirt freshman).
