Blame Bjorn and Dooley. You get back what you put into things. This is the football team they deserve.

It tells me that they are hoping Fleming is a miracle worker.

He clearly is not.

This will not end well, but it will end, and soon.....

Is the program heading in the right direction? As you start building it can go beyond W-Ls early on.
One thing I find encouraging is that many impact players are freshman and sophomores. Look at the receiving corp as well as the stable of running backs. Sebestian and White are seniors, but the rest are mainly freshman and sophomores. Only 1 of the top 7 on the list of leading tacklers is a senior. What worries is that our secondary that has been getting ripped apart consist primarily of seniors. Myles Holmes, Payne and Wienclaw. What happens when they graduate, how bad will the secondary be then?

Not that it matters that much, but you would hope that the young DB's coming in have more talent than the clearly talent-less people they have now......

This offseason a big story line was how many quarterbacks we brought in. Last year we had a bit of a QB carousel, partly because of injury but also Fleming would have backup QB's play series here and there during games throughout the season. This year Paul Mroz has thrown all but one pass for the team. Is this a strategy change from the coaching staff or is Mroz head and shoulders above the rest of the QB's on the roster? Things are pretty bleak if it's the latter. So far this year he has a 46.1% completion percentage and if you take out the Syracuse stats he is averaging only 5.5 yards per attempt and he has a hideous 3 TD to 7 interception ratio. As others have said, it's one thing to be outgunned, but we can't give away the ball the way we have been when we're outgunned like this. If Mroz can't take better care of the ball he needs to be replaced.

RhowdyRam02 wrote:To me Albany, Maine, Brown, Stony Brook, and Towson are the games that will indicate where we are as a program. Albany and Stony Brook are in their third year out of the NEC. Even if the NEC excuse people like to throw around is valid, and I don't believe it's nearly as big as people make it out to be, we should still be able to hang with those two schools. Maine and Brown are the only two losses last year that were one possession games. How have we grown in a year compared to two teams we were competitive with last year? And finally Towson was our only win last year, again how do we stack up against a team we were competitive with?

We failed our first test last week, but we're entering a critical stretch in my eyes. In a week we play at Maine and that one will be on TV. The week after we're at Brown in a night game for the Governor's Cup.
So now we've failed our three big tests of the season. Last year we lost to Albany by 17. This year 28. Last year we lost by 6 to Maine, this year it was 10. Last year we lost to Brown by 7, this year we lost by 10. I didn't think it was possible, but Fleming has this program moving backwards so far this year.

Defense is playing great today. Forcing turnovers and getting big 3rd and 4th down stops. Up 17-0 against Delaware with around 11:00 left.

Guys seemed very happy about the win.

Glad they got the monkey off their back and got to experience a win, something that is unfortunately not a regular occurrence for the program. Cannot be easy being a URI football player.

Rhody has actually not done all that bad vs Delaware at Meade. Given Blue Hen football is typically good year after year, this is a bit surprising.

RHODE ISLAND VS. DELAWARE - ALL-TIME SERIES

Rhode Island is 9-22 all-time against Delaware.
This is the sixth consecutive season the teams have met. Delaware had won four of the last five meetings, including a 28-13 victory last season.
Rhode Island is 6-8 against the Blue Hens in games played at Meade Stadium.
Rhode Island's last previous win in the series came in a 38-34 victory on Oct. 22, 2011.

Couple of thoughts
1. Defense was the difference, picking off passes and actually tackling behind the line of scrimmage.
2. A criticized secondary came to play today.
3. But to be honest, the Delaware quarterback was nothing to write home about. Good runner, but his passing was horrible. Eventually we crowded the line of scrimmage and forced some long third down plays.
4. But also to be honest, our quarterback was not that much better. Fortunately, he did not turn the ball over. At times, his passes were off the mark and others were dropped. He, and the receivers need to improve.
5. Coooooooooooooooooooop!!! We gained over 200 yards and coop was responsible for around 150. He is one tough back to bring down.
6. Kicking game was good, great punting and some field goals.
7. Is there a law at Meade that fans are not allowed to stand when we get an interception, touchdown, or forcing the opponent to give the ball up on downs?
8. I said on an earlier post that it would be nice one game this year for the team to go over to the band at the end of the game. Nice surprise.
9. Might have missed this - so I need some help. Were those students on the side lines in grey part of the group that was suspended?
10. Please players, celebrate tonight but don't be stupid!!!
11. Great afternoon under the brilliant sunshine in Kingston.

Look,
The last two games were a loss AT Maine 27-17 and a loss AT Brown 41-31. Against Maine Cooper did not play, he was phenomenal against Brown.
If you read what Hal Kopp has been saying you would know that there is talent on this team, especially at Wide Receiver, so this should not come as a huge, huge surprise, but it certainly is a pleasant ending.
Heck of a performance by our guys today, especially in the face of what happened on the disciplinary side of things this week.
Cool day, crowd of 4,000. Expect 7000+ next week for Homecoming against Richmond..

Any highlights anywhere? RhodyFootball needs to get any and all good news out for this team.

While it wasn't on television, there's footage of the top plays somewhere. I would hope someone is working to get those on the internet via Twitter and YouTube.

Caught the very end of it this morning. Looked like a great atmosphere and a lot of excitement. I love looking at the signs and I thought that this week's signs were, by far, the best of the year. Kudos to JMU

Football is very big at James Madison. They have poured a lot of money into their program. Their stadium has seen major expansion (62 million dollar renovation in 2011) and now seats close to 25k. The stadium is expandable as an upper deck could eventually be added to the visitor sideline. Many people think they will eventually go FBS (1A).

While JMU may be in the CAA as is URI, the two programs are truly leagues apart in how they operate.

Great prediction.
With a freshman and sophomore starting in the backfield and a sophomore in Hill playing well defensively, URI plays well but runs out of gas.
Congrats to Harold Cooper for making it to the 1,000 career yard mark.

The annual goal of URI football was met early this season. A win came against Delaware several weeks ago. Nothing else left to accomplish this year. Already got our one victory and team will not go win-less. The lofty goal of the URI Administration for football was achieved.

The question is are we better, worse or the same as a year ago? Has fowrard progress been made?
I'll say at this point better to considerably better - let's see how the last 3 games go but I am confident we will win at least one of these last 3
Nov 7 Villanova 4-4 at home Family Weekend
Nov 14 Stonybrook 2-5 at home Senior Day
Nov 21 Towson 5-3 away - last game
We played UNH tough on the road in a very hard to take loss for players and coaching staff
Consider we now start 3 Freshmen and 7 Sophomores
Our QB Wesley McKoy against UNH is only a Freshman who can run effectively and pass the ball
Harold Cooper is amazing and only a Sophomore
Khayri Denny is great and only a Freshman WR
Marven Beauvais will step right into a starting role next year only a Freshman now
Ahkema Evans - great now and great future

We need to have another good recruiting class this year to add to these Freshmen and Sophomores
Offense
RB Harold Cooper *Sophomore
WR Khayri Denny **Freshman
QB Wesley McKoy **Freshman
WR Phadrae White Senior
TE Nathan Holmes *Sophomore
RG Sam Hartman Junior
C Kevin Gallogly Senior
LT Tyler Catalina Junior
LG Michael Gilbert Junior
RT Dave Steinmetz *Sophomore
TE Charlie McKeeman *Sophomore
Defense
CB Ahkema Evans **Freshman
FS Tim Wienclaw Senior
CB Myles Holmes Senior
DB Isaiah Hill *Sophomore
SS Naiquan Thomas Junior
LB Connor Caponegro Senior
LB Adam Parker Junior
DT Mike Ezirike *Sophomore
DT Jose Duncan *Sophomore
DE Anthony St. Laurent Junior
DE Joe Simon Senior
