The Atlantic 10 coaches released their preseason poll today. After finishing last year with a 7-18 conference record, 11th of 12 teams in the standings, and missing the conference tournament for the first time in a long time, the coaches don't think too highly of us this year. They have us predicted in a tie for 11th with UMass. Only St. Bonaventure is projected to be worse. The season starts next week at Florida.

22-3 loss today. I know you can't draw a ton from two games, especially against a team like Florida, but wow do we look bad so far.

Two years ago when Rhody won a share of the A-10 title they started the season 0-9, including a few blowout losses. Small sample size so far... against the #5 team in the country, no less.

My fear isn't that we lost Foster, but last year was the start of a downward trend for the program, he knew the program would start to falter, and he got out before he took the hit for it. I understand he got a raise, but I still don't understand why he would work for a coach on the hot seat in a part of the country where it's so tough to win. Something doesn't sound right about why he left if he thought last year was just going to be a one year blip.

That's true, we're always going to struggle at the start of a season, especially if we keep playing the caliber of teams that we have been. But I remember thinking last year at the beginning of the season that we weren't as competitive as we had been in our previous season's losses, and we never really threatened Florida this weekend.

Only positive from this weekend is that Rhody hit three home runs after only hitting five all of last season. Offense was a big problem last year - if they can reverse that trend it's a safe bet that they'll show improvement over last season.

Following the baseball team is so frustrating. How could you be a top 3 team for like 8 years and not be able to win ONE A-10 championship. Or they'd always lose their first game in conference.

Foster didn't leave Rhody because he knew the team was in decline. Foster left because he was about to be "told" to leave. Per some of his older former players now coaching in the area, he left on not so good terms. Apparently URI received many complaints the past few years about his methods of trying to get points across shall we say to players and URI got tired of it! I was also told that he is being partially to blame by the family of the player who passed away. One former player mentioned a lawsuit but didn't know for sure. What no one can figure out is why URI didn't completley distance themselves from the Foster regimen completly and hired Cerrato. My son love the team and goes to their games so I hope Cerrato can right the ship.

Also, why would they be ready to let go of Foster who was successful when complaints never reached the public but they kept and maybe even extended the softball coach who hasn't been successful and had a whole Channel 10 expose done on her?

I was able to catch a half inning of yesterday's 9-2 win over Brown. The positive, I saw us score 2 of our runs. The negative, holy shit it was cold. Low 40's with a killer wind coming in from center field. If you're going out to the game today, dress as if you were going skiing.

Rhody baseball swept three games from St Joe's in Kingston this weekend and have now climbed over the .500 mark. URI is 13-12-1 overall and 6-3 in the conference. They have already equaled the win total of last season with 21+ more games left.

Rhody very impressive - takes the first two games at Richmond this weekend with a big third game today at noon.
Huge 3 game series upcoming at VCU
We were predicted tied for 11th in preseason poll
Lefty Freshman Tyler Wilson moves to 5-0, 1.14 era with 1 hitter against Richmond
Only hit for Richmond was in the 4th inning and was an infield single

Nice to see the offense is lead by 2 local guys a freshmen from North Kingstown Chris Hess who hit a game winning Home Run yesterday and Mike Corin a Sophomore from North Providence who had a double and triple. This team will be very good next year too only losing their shortstop and returning all 3 pitchers

Huge win yesterday. Today is a great day to catch the baseball Rams.
Freshman Tyler Wilson is the starting pitcher today. This freshman has been incredible with a 6-0 record and is 6th among all NCAA pitchers in ERA and is first with fewest hits allowed per 9 innings pitched, amazing job.
Worth the price of admission.

I'm happy to be wrong on this one. I truly thought that Foster leaving for a lower position with a team like BC that will always have trouble being competitive in conference with a manager that would seem to be on the hot seat was a sign that the program was going to continue its dip from its level of the last decade or so and he was looking to get out before it tarnished him.

Baseball loses 2nd straight at home to LaSalle in last series of the season. Game today vs LaSalle is last of the regular season. URI is now 22-23-1 and 14-9 in conference play. Their home record of 11-10-1 has been disappointing considering most of their games vs the better competition was elsewhere.
