4-8, I sure hope I'm right because I think more wins is virtually impossible.

Take down the Robert Carothers banner and fix the concession stand lines
Villanova only lost to Syracuse 27-26 in double-overtime
Nova looks strong, good passing game, and quick receivers.

Re: FB season W-L predictions
I know one person put down Central Conn. as a win, and I'm sure others are looking at them in the win column after last year's game, but not so fast my friend. They named Pete Rossomando head coach this past offseason, I know that was a name floated by some for our position and they went on the road this past week and beat #7 Towson.

4-8. 6-6 the year after. If this guy is for real that is.

Re: FB season W-L predictions
I'd say 4-5 wins. I can't remember a season that I was more excited for with the new coach and players.

Although I think they will only win 3 games, I also am very excited about the direction the team is going in. I hope Fleming is the guy who can turn this program around.Rhodymob05 wrote:I'd say 4-5 wins. I can't remember a season that I was more excited for with the new coach and players.

As an optimist, I'm looking for four wins. As an optimist, I'm also looking to score against Marshall.

Re: FB season W-L predictions
My Prediction is 2-9. Great new Coaching Staff, some good transfers, love the direction of the team, there could be some upsets pulled but it's a long trek back from the damage done when we quit the CAA and reduced scholarships. Next year should be a big turnaround, not this year recordwise.
@ Marshall - Loss, No way a win, impossible
@ Fordham - Loss, No way. Fordham ranked 10th Nationally, should win the Patriot League
Albany - Win, Should be a win in our first Home game of the season
@ Central Connecticut State - Loss, I thought a win at first but they just pulled a humongous upset at Towson in their first game and Towson was ranked 19th Nationally. Now predict a loss
Brown - Win, Should be a win. Brown picked 6th of 8 teams preseason in the Ivy League
@ Villanova - Loss, no chance with Villanove ranked 7th Nationally
@ Richmond - Loss, no change with Richmond ranked 20th Nationally
Maine - Loss, Maine ranked 22nd Nationally
Delaware - Loss
New Hampshire - Loss, No way. UNH ranked 8th Nationally
@ Stony Brook - Loss
Towson - Loss. Towson ranked 19th Nationally
Preseason Coaches Poll for CAA
1. New Hampshire (15)
2. Villanova (2)
3. Richmond (3)
4. William and Mary (3)
5. Towson
6. Delaware
7. Maine
8. James Madison (1)
9. Stony Brook
10. UAlbany
11. Rhode Island

Re: FB season W-L predictions
I looked at the USA Today top 25 poll for FB on the ESPN app and Brown was listed with 26 votes. Is that a misprint?

Re: FB season W-L predictions
I want URI football to succeed as much as any other alumni, but having looked at the schedule and rankings posted earlier in this thread I have a tough time seeing where the four wins come from this year.
By the way, the Brown thing is a mis-print. Should be BYU I believe.

Re: FB season W-L predictions
Fordham gets pummeled by Villanova 50-6.
I now think that we will beat Fordham - even though we lost to Marshall pretty much by the type of score I expected, I saw more positives in the URI play than I expected. Fordham played much worse than I expected so this would be a great win for our young team.

From this point forward, the team needs to act like they belong.
We play to win the game.
Every week.

Re: FB season W-L predictions
Sorry, but I came down for a meeting and stayed to watch one quarter of the Albany game. I did not get a warm and fuzzy feeling despite a 14-0 lead by mid first quarter. Both the offensive line and the defensive look small and not talented. Ground game is non-existent. The two Ram scores were tinged with a bit of luck though URI did earn them. Albany made no mistakes other than some bad defensive plays in the early going. Then came the typical URI miscues and I predicted to my wife, they would lose 41-14. I thought last year was bad, but this team looks worse - almost high schoolish. 0-12 is a very strong possibility.

Re: FB season W-L predictions
If we lose Hurley due to money I am going to be pissed off. Kill this program because it is an embaressment to the University. Put the money in D1 Hockey. Maybe kick everyone off the team and scholarship the entire state champion HS team. Worse case scenario is we lose every game. Pathetic.

Re: FB season W-L predictions
Same old same old.
Fleming spent a lot of time hyping this program's future. People had some optimism this might get turned around in time.
Well, the balloon is rapidly losing air, and if we go 0-12, who will give a shit, again?
Jim has brought in basically 1/4 of the roster. Are these players CAA quality?
If not, how much more of this is Dooley going to take?

Re: FB season W-L predictions
blueram, I think URI is going to do everything they can to keep Dan around as long as possible.
Both Dooley and Thorr know that men's BB and the revenue it could bring the school, could help carry the rest of the department. All their eggs are in this basket imo.
It could help fund infrastructure improvements for football. But football has to show a pulse to get some of that money.
Right now, football is flatlining. A couple more years of embarrassment might finally be enough to bury it for good.

I'm thinking Rhody will have a 1-11 record after watching the previous home game vs. Albany.
