CAA Football - Albany already looking to expand new Stadium

Unread post by RF1 »

Albany just opened Bob Ford field in September with URI being the inaugural opponent (Rhody won). They are already looking into possibly spending another 20 million and increasing capacity from 8,500 to 24,000. It was less than 15 years ago that Albany and its sister SUNY Stony Brook were still D3. They have both made huge strides in just a short time. They are peer institutions for URI as they all compete in CAA Football.

Must be nice for them to get 3/4 of their money for this from their state.

Never happen here, unfortunately.

Stony Brook is looking to raise $100 million over the next five years and use some of that money to expand their stadium to 20,000 seats.

It is what it is.

I am just happy most of the campus has been re-done. Re-zoning/thinking of how to add commercial space or public/private partnership must be the big thing on the horizon.

It shows you how far behind we have fallen in facilities. Out basketball facilities are good, and indoor track, but everything else is sub-par.

Our baseball field is top notch, but they need to add seating.

The playing surface (turf) on its own is top notch. The rest of it is certainly lacking. That makes the facility as a whole substandard.

Check out the baseball venue at UMaine, another northern public state university:

Schools such as Albany and Stony Brook, which were D-3 just a decade ago, have passed URI in terms of athletic facilities for many sports. Other than the Ryan Center and Mackle, Rhody has done a poor job of keeping up with the D-1 competition.

You could make a strong case that Boss Arena is our second best athletics facility. It could host D1 hockey in October.

Boss Arena would still be in the bottom range of D1 hockey venues and not up to par with most northeast schools. It is not up to Hockey East standards and below almost all ECAC members. It would fit only for Atlantic Hockey, the bottom league of D1.

That's fair, I would have said top of the Atlantic and about average in the ECAC. And that really says everything that needs to be said about our athletic facilities.

The State of RI is so F'd up it ranks 48+ out of 50 states in just so many categories it's silly. MISMANAGEMENT! Let's try switching things up AClowns and start supporting your STATE U. Brown is really cute but every student runs to Boston/NY on graduation. See ya chumps in RI. Thanks for a great college experience SAPS!

Every study in the world says play to your STATE U the kids stay and live their lives there. Get it NITWITS!

Can we please stop talking about Hockey. No one in the world gives a F outside of people from Kenmore Square.

GO RHODY!

I think bringing up the Boss Arena in a discussion about URI athletics facilities is very relevant. I mean probably not as relevant as that super sick story about how you act with your season ticket bros in a discussion about a former player, but what is...

URI had so squeeze rocks to get the money for the performance center, RIC gets to the state to pay for theirs, and Bryant with lots of money with big tuitions moves ahead.
