Re: FOOTBALL - # 6 MAINE
Rams did get a 1st down on possession #2, and did force the bears to punt on their 3rd possession.
Btw, peavey is in for the injured bentsen.

Peavey connects on a 49 yd pass, rhody's longest of the season.
Fg try is a fake, no score.
Maine's first play after getting possession, td.
28-0

It's been tough listening to this one on the radio. Just sounds so depressing. Maine clinches the conference championship with a win.

Just your typical 41-0 season ending loss. Second straight shutout.
Can we say they showed "improvement" given they allowed less points than last week?

Re: FOOTBALL - # 6 MAINE
They had more yards, more first downs, and forced Maine to punt before giving up 28 points, so I guess it's an improvement.
Next year they open at Marshall.
I'm actually shocked they were able to win a game this year, and to win 2 CAA games is practically miraculous.
If they win 4 games next year, we might have a reason to hope for the future. But I can't see it happening.
A more important goal than number of wins, in my opinion, is number of games decided by less than 14 points. All the losses this year were by more than 14. When will they be competitive in half their games?

Re: FOOTBALL - # 6 MAINE
I would imagine that this is the time of the year that the fake out NEC move hurts. Now that a few key guys have gone down with injuries, we do not have the depth to plug people in.
Started listening in the second quarter. What was the reason that was given for Kolt starting? Sounded like he threw the ball downfield a bit, but the running game was never able to get going. We couldn't control the clock, giving the ball back to Maine who made big play after big play. From what I have heard, Luke Casey(RS FR) has also looked good in practice and could potentially be given a shot at beating out Peavey for the starting spot?

URI buses only went up with enough gas for one way trip, unless final spread was under 45.
They are dropping the team off at Bridgton Academy until spring time.

Re: FOOTBALL - # 6 MAINE
Another successful URI football campaign comes to a close - did not go win-less and won a few games, did not place last in the conference, and no players died on the field in our mismatches. Expectations can indeed be met when the ceiling is set so low.

Too funny, RF1! Let's look on the bright side. We all tried our best and we're all still dear friends! Now we just wait for the playoff selection committee to call us up for an at large bid.

Re: FOOTBALL - # 6 MAINE
URI officials need to go back to Maine, and study what it takes to have a successful CAA level FB program, with facilities that aren't much better than ours. Same with UNH.
Clearly, they are doing something right, and it can't just be the coaching staff.
And yes, good one, RF1. Sad but true.

Maine's stadium is significantly better than Meade. UNH's is pretty much as bad as ours.

Re: FOOTBALL - # 6 MAINE
Well, if we still have football in a few years, we'll have to replace the East stands.
They will fall down all by themselves eventually. Let's hope there aren't any accidents before then.

Anxious to see what steps will be taken to improve the football program this offseason.
