FOOTBALL: Maine 24 UMass 14

Unread post by RF1 »

While things are bleak for URI football, things aren't a lot better for our former rival with FBS dreams.

UMaine dominated (statwise) UMass at Gillette on Saturday winning 24-14. The attendance was 15,624 and included several thousand Maine fans. UMass had already been put on notice by the NCAA that its attendance was not up to FBS standards. Given how UMass has started off the season, attendance likely won't get a lot better.

Wow, surprising. Well, it also shows how good Maine is, which can recruit in Orono.
I saw this in the scores posted for college football in the NY Times. Unless I missed it, Projo had awful college football coverage.

No matter if you are FBS or FCS team, you still can only have 11 on the field at a time.

Maine could have won by more. They took their foot off the pedal late. This result should not really have been a surprise. Maine was actually a 3pt favorite.

Too bad the Krafts haven't built the Revs an MLS stadium like a lot of teams have. Would be the right size for UMass, probably, too. Those of us who have always argued that UMass's FBS move was as hair-brained as you could get are looking pretty smart right now.

Yeah, especially now that they'll NEVER be in the big money of BCS.

The Revs stadium will be in Somerville and it will be a grass field. It will not be a help to ZooMass football at all.

Teh school will lose millions pumping up a team that plays two hours from campus, a program hardly anyone in the state cares about, a team that gets whomped each week. UMASS should stop pretending it is on the same tier as UCONN ... which itself is no BCS powerhouse.
