The last game he played in was one of the most amazing URI sporting events I ever saw. In a driving windswept rainstorm with SW winds gusting to over 40 mph, Rhody drove the length of the field into the wind, to score the winning TD against UConn. Everyone was soaked after the game, even the UConn band made the trip.

In his last football game, against unbeaten Connecticut, Apgar caught a pass over the middle and scampered out of bounds. On the next play, the Rams scored with 14 seconds left to stun the Huskies 24-19.

Apgar was a real talent. That UCONN ending was a classic. Does anyone know if Ron Barlow Still works at URI? He was paralyzed in a game in 1975?

I was at URI when that happened to Barlow. That was awful.
