To those who support the old way of thinking, I think the best counter-argument was to that of the coach… People used to say “If the coach can just leave and start fresh, why can’t the players?” The coach never left penalty-free, all coaches have buyouts, some large, some small. Anything that involves OOC will not illicit any real excitement. Many of the schools listed care about standing on the top of the mountain at the end of the season. I’m the exact opposite on the last point. Your schedule is your schedule, yes a majority of your schedule is against conference foes, but you should be graded on the entirety of your schedule. I think the problem here is that no one cares about the NIT and to most, the NIT is a punishment and not a reward. Sure, bolstering the teams might make it marginally more interesting, but it would still just be considered the best of the rest. Imagine losing in the real tournament and being told, “...

I think people put too much credence in the “our conference is better so we are more desirable” argument. If a mid-major coach is successful, they are already a step away from a major conference job. Why go to a rebuilding program? Think a former P5 coach trying to rebuild reputation is more likely.

The key to stopping Watson is positioning. Texas Tech did a good job because Watson never really got the ball in scoring position.
