Re: '13 PG MI EC Matthews (URI - Signed LOI)
I'd also be surprised if the Rams had just two spots for the 2013-14 team, just because it seems like every program ends up having at least one guy transfer out after every year. It's too soon (at least IMO) to identify who that might be from this year's team.

Re: We need a point guard.
I don't think that the problem with the offense is the offense we are running, as much as it is a lack of scorers on the team. I thought we got some pretty good looks last Friday night, but we couldn't knock anything down. Also, we don't really know if the offense will open up things for guys that ...

Re: We need a point guard.
Um, Powell is not an "one the ball" defender. Last night, case in point. Green abused him, all night. He's shown flashes of being a good defender, and he has the foot speed to be a decent one. I think if he's not running the offense, all the other aspects of his game improve. Of course, t...

@ Gonebarongone - I don't think you play Hare and feed him shots just because. Hurley has made it clear, at least in press conferences, that Hare will get more playing time and more shots when he starts playing better in practice. Munford had the hot hand last night, and to go away from him would ju...

Re: Betting on URI this year
I believe it refers to the money that makes the line move. i.e. If the line goes from 11 to 12, then the "smart money" was the professional gamblers gobbling up the bet when it was at 11.Ramulous wrote:Forgive my betting ignorance.....what is "sharp money" ?

Re: We need a point guard.
I think Powell is a point guard in the way that Jason Terry is a point guard, sometimes. Ideally, I think his role is as a scorer who focuses on offense and tough on-ball defense, as opposed to trying to get everyone else going, but the current roster probably hamstrings them. Malone and Munford cle...

Re: Jordan Hare
Yeah, Hare seems to be like more of a project big man, whereas Holton had some good skills already, but maybe didn't have the peak of Hare. Like it wouldn't have surprised me if Holton didn't improve a ton from his freshman year, which was that of a decent A-10 starter already, whereas Hare could be...

Re: Game #2: Virginia Tech - PreGame
13.5 feels too high to me, but then again, URI did lose by a dozen to Norfolk State, and you figure Virginia Tech just has to be better, right? Regardless, I'd feel nervous betting the "over" for the favored team against URI, because you just know they're going to catch a couple teams by s...

Re: Game #1: Norfolk State - In-Game
I think it's tough to get on the crowd too much. I mean, the team isn't expected to be good this year, and they did lose the game. Crowds usually act rationally, so while I don't think the attendance will get as bad as it was for Baron at the end of the year, people are probably going to chose to wa...

Re: Game #1: Norfolk State - In-Game
One other stat stuck out for me. 4 guys played betweem 32-36 minutes. That's going to have to stay the same all year. We thought we had depth problems at the big positions. But, we're playing 3 different guys at the 5. That leaves only TJ and Bigby to back up the other 4 spots. Hurley actually ment...

Re: Game #1: Norfolk State - In-Game
I personally thought everything in the game flowed from the lack of height. With no consistent post option, you had to rely solely on the motion offense to get guys open for jumpers. Yeah, Malone and Munford missed some open shots, but they have just as many contested looks coming at the end of the ...

Re: Game #1: Norfolk State - In-Game
Aaman looks like a great energy guy off the bench, ideally probably a big 3 or an undersized 4. Shot selection is still an issue - lots of settling for jumpers. But the defensive intensity is night and day vs. Baron, despite the team being a lot smaller overall. Hare was the only guy who looked over...

Here is my question for all of you, since I can't actually bet - How the heck do all of y'all do it? Like, I imagine reef can just go to a sportsbook, since if I recall correctly, he's in Vegas. How do the rest of you do it though? Do bookies still exist, or is this solely an online thing?

I'd ask him if he ever felt any friction from his teammates, given his status as the coach's son. Did it cause him personally to work harder in practice? Speaking of that, what is / was his practice routine? And finally, what's his professional life like? I love pretty much any story about the Europ...

I'm not sure if there is a prediction out there that would truly surprise me with this team. Maybe 20+ wins, but that's about it. I wouldn't put anything past this year's team because there are so many unknowns, in terms of the true talent level of the players, how little or how much the coach was g...

Re: URI played Brown in a football game yesterday....and...
I think URI could take a page out of Middletown and Salve's book, and get a sort of multi-usage stadium passed. Make it the destination for southern high school sports, kind of like how Cranston Stadium hosts the football games and other events. A couple thousand seats, multi-sport field turf, and o...

He's a 5'10" WR, so it's going to be all about what sort of time he can post at the NFL combine or some sort of scout day. Victor Cruz made it from UMass to the NFL, so it's not unprecedented, but it's more likely that he's an undrafted free agent that tries to go from a body in a camp to an N...
