Re: URI football: History is chasing us
I admire your optimism...but I think it is a blind optimism. Stats don't always tell the whole story - how many yards you give up is a case in point. But when you give up more points than every school every year and the Head Coach is "a defensive guy" then this is not a good story. Yes, al...

Re: URI football: History is chasing us
Coaching is a discussion topic that is valid. I honestly think our defense plays at an extremely high level in the conference. Young safeties getting mixed up and allowing home runs will happen. They will get better. Fleming is a defensive guy and I trust what I've seen so far this year. The high l...

Re: URI football: History is chasing us
Blue Man, please count me as non rational. If Fleming wins his last 3 games(which will not happen) his record will be 9-36. But frankly, I believe that if he goes 2-1 he will return as coach and I can accept that. But when you state that he is improving slowly - by the way his record is 1 win, 1 win...

This is a good win. Not sure why Albany is having such a down year, but this is about a CAA road win - great job Rhody! Big difference when you can get pressure on the QB. The kicker from last year left to go play elsewhere...not sure where. If Thorr and Dooley do indeed care about the football program, then I think most on this board agree that they need to terminate Fleming at the end of this season. But then what? URI has a talented dual threat QB in Harris. But unfortunately the Flemings(father and son) are inept at utilizing him. Was the program going to be shut down regardless of how the new coach performed? In that case why fire Trainer? Or was the program going to shut down unless the new coach turned things around. The biggest difference in these teams is coaching and believing you can win. After URI makes it 15-14, UNH scores on the long pass on 3rd and 13, where the wide receiver is being covered by a linebacker. URI responds with a penalty on the kick return and then promptly goes 3 and out. Not good.

URI would be ecstatic to have the "half" stadium that UNH has. #1 issue with the program is facilities; you'll lose the recruit every time to the shinier object. How did UNH get all those recruits when they were playing in an awful stadium for the past 25 years? Facilities are important a...
