Re: Other Non FBS-1A College Football Stadiums in the East
Albany's Bob Ford Field opened 9/14 against us. They spent $24 million for 8,500 seats or $2824 per seat. Stony Brook’s LaValle Stadium opened in 2002. They spent $28.6 million for 8,136 seats or $3515/seat. They’ll be spending $5.7 million for at least 2000 more seats or $2850 per seat. Maine’s Alf...

Re: FB Head Coaching List
I don't know if he would A. be interested in leaving BC or B. if he would be in line for UConn's head coaching job. He was DC there in 2011 and 2012, and I'd have to think he would be someone they'd take a look at this offseason. That said, he's 58 and off the top of my head I can't remember a lot o...

Re: FB Head Coaching List
I haven't heard anything yet that makes me change my top 3 of Whipple, Keeler, and Brown, but at this point Don Brown is a clear number 1 for me. In 4 seasons at Northeastern (2000-2003) he went 27-20, 18-16 in conference play, had 1 playoff berth and finished the season ranked twice. In 5 seasons a...

Re: FB Head Coaching List
Here's a fun little exercise and might illustrate the difficulty any coach coming in will have. Coach A had a .689 winning percentage at his job before taking the URI position. He won one FCS championship, and made the playoffs in half of the seasons he was the head coach. Coach B had a .623 winning...

Re: FB Head Coaching List
Wasn't Thor at UMASS when Mark Whipple then Don Brown were there? Maybe they are two coaches Thor fancies. Honestly though, unless the school give the next coach the assurances the infrastructure will be better in say the next 5 years, I highly doubt we'll get anyone with a good 1AA pedigree. He ov...

The negativity in this thread stinks and it stinks and it sucks. Pat Mastors is not walking through that door fans. And if you expect her to walk through that door she's going to be wearing a sensible pant suit. What we are is young, exciting, hard working, and going to improve. People don't realize...

Too funny, RF1! Let's look on the bright side. We all tried our best and we're all still dear friends! Now we just wait for the playoff selection committee to call us up for an at large bid.

Re: Game #4: Metro State - NIT Tip-Off - Monday Nov 8 @ 8pm
I'm thinking this is more like scenario #1A. They are who we thought they were: We're a D1 team, they're a D2 team, the curbstomping begins early, continues throughout the game, and the late arriving Arizona crowd has no chance to get behind the underdog. Great, they almost won the D2 championship l...

Re: The List
If Trainer is going to be fired or not renewed the announcement could come as early as today. Jim Baron's last game was Saturday, March 3rd and there was an official announcement of his termination the next day. Now onto some thoughts on candidates: Eric Taylor-he might be the only coach that could ...

Re: What is the future of URI football according to Keaney B
This post amazes me and really defines URI mentality and maybe the State of Rhode Island. I don't think URI football has ever been given the support it needs to be successful, in 100 years. I think students help build the old west concrete stands that were taken down, and the East Stands were the o...

Re: What is the future of URI football according to Keaney B
RhodyRam, you mention the reasons you put the survey out there, just curious, what do youthink about the voting so far? Is it about what you expected? Did you expect more positives about keeping football or did you expect more people to want to discontinue the program? Frankly, I'm pretty surprised...

Re: What is the future of URI football according to Keaney B
I have to be honest, this is a really complicated question for me, and that's part of why I threw this poll up, along with the feeling that the program's existence is at a crossroads right now. In football's favor, there is truly nothing in all of sports like college football. To be on campus on a g...

Re: URI Men's Soccer - The Losing Continues
Not only was this Gareth Elliott's first season as head coach, but you have to hope that the success we had under Ed Bradley could be built up again considering Bradley came back as Director of Operations and Elliott both played for Bradley and was one of his assistants for three seasons.

What is the future of URI football according to Keaney Blue?
While there is still one game left this season, the home slate is now over and it appears that this is the last season Coach Trainer is under contract so I'm just curious to see what the community thinks URI should do with the program. It seems like this is a topic often discussed but we have no rea...

According to the basketball team's official twitter, there were 1,365 students last night. Damn impressive considering it was a Friday night leading into a 3 day weekend and those are people in seats, not distributed tickets.

Some really nice attendance trends from this one. Last night we got 5410. Last year's season opener was 5045 and the average was 4291. In Baron's last season the season opener against Hofstra drew 3220 and the average was 3829. The last time we played Maine was Baron's last year and it only drew 271...

Put me in the camp that only cares if they win. While style points would be nice I think even a one point win will help confidence tremendously for a still growing team. Last year's team started 0-5 and they seemed to press late in games and I believe it had to do with being winless. I'm thinking sp...

Re: Moving Up in Hockey
The ECAC is probably a more realistic conference (vs HE) within a few years of an upgrade. While a high level of hockey is played in the conference as you note, I have my doubts that many of its members would excite the average URI fan. Quinnipiac, Union, St. Lawrence, Clarkson, Colgate, RPI, Brown...

Re: Moving Up in Hockey
I'd love to see URI move up in hockey, but Hockey East is a total pipe dream. The better solution is to move up into the Atlantic as soon as possible and try to lobby as hard as possible for entry into the ECAC. It's a 12 team league that would offer us an instate rival with Brown, and the furthest ...

I'm in complete agreement with Ramster. Football provides a platform for Homecoming that basketball or any other sport we field just can't match. The issue wasn't so much about playing Auburn as it was the playing a Friday night game in RI then playing a mid afternoon game on Sunday in Alabama. Travel/turnaround time, not the opponent.

It's not just institutional support, it's also fan support of this program and I'm not talking about attendence. Every single time there's the slightest piece of bad news about the football team we have five people on this board say we should just shut the program down. Last year people were worried...
