Turn off the Stanford game? I recall Al Maguire scolding Tyson for prematurely celebrating and being scared that Al was right. He was. I don't get the idea we were robbed in 1978. It was a great game that came down to a few missed freebies and a John Nelson missed jumper. The 1988 game was a differe...

I think Bembry is low first round. Why would he come out otherwise with no guaranteed contract? RF1., I doubt he minds Martell I and the fans. They're on his side.

Great for X. He's paid his dues in the D League for chump change and $100,000 is nice, more if he stays around the rest of the year. He dunked on Paul Pierce? Is that a big deal these days?

Re: Potential Future Head Coaches at URI Thread
O'Shea is where he should be. He loves RI and doesn't strike me as a guy bent on a big time career.
It's hard to compare any URI coach to Harrick. He had a pedigree we're unlikely to see here again. It was a terrfic two seasons. And it gets farther away all the time.

I was kidding about O'Shea. Rod hates him and usually gets nuts f anyone mentions him. I reluctantly agree with those who think Dan will leave after a tournament year. He's already drawing interest and has said no. But he would day yest to the right school.

Count me among those who didn't think Syracuse should be in the Dance. I was sure wrong. I was surprised to see Gonzaga fold as they did... the backcourt violation was inexcusable. Gonzaga was essentially a two man team ...and Syracuse keyed on that.

Re: Should Every Player Declare for Draft Under New NCAA Rul
I think this makes sense for someone like Bentil, who is probably a second rounder now. A few good moments at the combine could alter things. A lot of players can submit their names and won't get invited very far.
Martin and Matthews may get a sense of where the NBA sees them.

Ideally Hurley would build a solid program and stay around another seven to ten years. And Preston will find a good HC job during that time. URI is a stepping stone job. There will be no John Chaney here. URI can't compete with bigger salaries.
Have to maximize its coaches' time. The pressure is on to make a good hire every time out.

Hurley closeness to EC won't prevent him from taking a $12 million job if he really wants it. Players come and go. My hunch is Hurley stays. But URI can't compete with that cash if money is the deciding factor. I think some of us are myopic about URI's role in college hoops. No dancing for 17 years ...
