Re: Bill Koch and Projo
I am in my 20's and also interested in the news. The issue with the paper is that I turn on the news in the morning, listen to the radio, check twitter, this board.....by the time I have the paper in my hands it is old news. I feel like this is one of many reasons why the projo is struggling. Not t...

Re: Bill Koch and Projo
young readers (25-40) aren't interested in the news. It was hard to pick just one part of that disaster of a post, but I decided to go with this one. You could not possibly be more wrong if you tried. Now, if you want to say young readers aren't interested in getting the news a day late in a newspa...

Running Ram - Circulation isn't dropping because of the product. It's because subscribers are dying (literally), most part-time readers of the news stopped subscribing and read online and young readers (25-40) aren't interested in the news. It's very humorous reading people who don't work in newspapers gripe about how newspapers should work. How would any one of us felt if someone walked into our place of work and said "you're doing a terrible job and this is how you should be doing it." If you really wanted to improve conten...

Re: Poll for athletic department....old Rhody vs new
How many of you were ever in the old Rhody outfit? Anyone else besides me? It smelled like what I imagine Jose Canseco's shot off middle finger will smell like in 2 months and that was back in 2002. It had to be replaced. You can argue that they did a poor job designing the replacement, I'll agree ...

Re: Where Are They Now? Former Player Results and News
He was assigned to the D-League today. On that team he's going to be a perfect fit.
He was a better pure shooter than Jimmy but couldn't create his shot on his own like Jimmy and I don't think I saw him play defense once.
Good kid though.

In all seriousness, best of luck to Bill. Love to see the ProJo finally hire an in-state guy. There are several who have the chops to be there and it's good to see Bill get that chance.

Re: Koch: Inglese's Contract Not Renewed
This might be crazy talk, but how about Bob Walsh as a replacement?
I don't know if he'd want to switch to the women's game, but he's a terrific coach and D-I is D-I. He can recruit with the best of them and who knows, he could end up doing what Geno did at UConn in the mid-80s.

Rod, I was mainly just quoting you for the guys you mentioned. I respect your opinion. I'm just not gonna crush a guy who was three or four wins away from being beloved in these parts. And I hope Danny is around for more than four if he doesn't get in. Mid Majors have much more success maintaining c...

Re: WJAR TV reports details of Hurley's Contract Extension
3Wise, What RF was saying was if it was an informational piece, like the reporter said in a tweet to Rod, than why not inform viewers of the other contracts of other D-I coaches. The reporting is decent, but let's not make Bagni out to be Woodward and Bernstein for filing a basic FOIA request. Truth...

Men's college hoops during Wooden's era and women's college hoops during Geno's time are remarkably similar. There wasn't a lot of parity. Big name schools had a huge advantage and there wasn't really a limit as to how many stars you could get. I'd love to see the women's game finally adapt a) the 1...

Re: And it begins.. Renewed Speculation of Dan Hurley to Rut
What was wrong with Donaldson's piece exactly? That it explored a possible option for something you hope doesn't happen? It was a column; not a news story, and it went perfect with the PK/KMac piece. The comparison of Hurley to Rutgers and Cooley and PC was fitting. Just because the topic wasn't som...

I don't think this is a non-story. It's legit. Problem is, there's not much to report without talking directly to the people involved. If I was gambling, I'm putting money on Zagoria, but I wouldn't be shocked to see KMac or PK - not sure who would take this story - get a few comments from Hurley fi...

So who's the first to get a comment directly from Hurley? a) National Guy b) ProJo c) Small-paper local d) TV station I haven't always agreed with him and we had our moments, but Mike Laprey is very good at what he does, so I doubt we're going to hear much from Hurley until the school is sure they k...

Re: Beer in the RC
Easy solution - anyone under 25 must have a school ID to but beer. My buddy went to Stonehill and a couple package stores near campus wouldn't sell without a school ID. Why? They'd keep the info on file; a quick swipe would tell you if it's legit or not. Beer sales would be huge for revenue and it w...

Sports media, especially on TV and radio, get it wrong all the time and don't lose their jobs. Let's be real here. Sports talk radio isn't reporting much. Spouting off opinions is significantly different than reporting news. Can you remember the last time a local TV station got something wrong? I c...

Teams leaving the A-10 affects URI and its fans.
The Big East disbanded affects the entire state. That's a major revenue stream leaving the area. If you don't think that's front page news, you're insane.

This thread is funny. It reminds me of when we'd pick all-area and the big school parents would complain and say their kid deserved a spot over a kid who played against lesser competition. I'm gonna try and play devil's advocate here: If you're picking this all-RI team based solely on talent, Munfor...

I've been reading this thread with great interest both from the fan side and the media side. First, Dave should be commended for his report. He found sources he trusted and got this story out there. I would have liked him to have called URI and gotten a "no comment" to legitimize it, but i...

I read two pages of the thread, stopped and decided to post. Here's my take, from a journalistic perspective: This is not an article, despite what many of you have written. This is a column. There is a huge disparity. GoLocalProv has failed miserably with its sports coverage because it doesn't diffe...

Re: Game Thread - Southern Methodist vs. URI
I think we can all agree on two things: 1) The best play of the game was when Ryan Brooks hedged a screen up top, stole the ball from SMU's guard and went all the way in for a dunk. Vegas would have never given odds on that. 2) Walkons needed to get in; when they do, they need to go bombs away becau...
