Re: FCS Playoffs

It is going to be great when, per Coach Fleming, "we kick their ass at Meade next year".

Re: Koch Article "No Plans on Dropping Football"

Dropping down to a lower level will do nothing to improve wins and losses. If the winning is not important to the administration it doesn't matter what level you are at. We can just as easily be at the bottom of the NEC as the CAA. If URI cannot or will not do what it takes to match our most closely...

Re: Koch Article "No Plans on Dropping Football"

Any word on the new coach for Bryant? Getting a bit late with regards to recruiting. I heard Fine's resignation (read firing) was due to some off field activities and not their mediocre record.

Re: Koch Article "No Plans on Dropping Football"

This news is a bit old but just learned that Delaware fired 4th year coach Brock back in October after going 19-22. He has been replaced by Rocco from U Richmond - who has taken the Spiders to the playoffs 3 consecutive years. URI crosses its fingers and hopes its 4-30 coach can win 4-5 games in a s...

Re: Koch Article "No Plans on Dropping Football"

"The character of the football team is focused on winning in spite of not having the best - to embrace that," Fleming said. "So we can get James Madison up here and remember 84-7 and beat their ass on our field next year, which is the opportunity ahead of us." When JMU comes to M...

Re: Koch Article "No Plans on Dropping Football"

I hope Thorr and company (i.e., Dooley) read these posts and realize the BS they are peddling is not selling because it has all been said before and it has proven to be empty. Sports can be a marketing and fund raising force for a university - but if you are a constant loser it becomes a negative. U...

Re: Koch Article "No Plans on Dropping Football"

Coyne from Portsmouth HS - a leading Gatorade Player of the Year candidate - has committed to UNH as a preferred walk-on. Apparently turned down URI scholarship offer. My guess is that it was not the dark cloud over Kingston but rather a belief that he will be on a perennial playoff contender that s...

Re: Koch Article "No Plans on Dropping Football"

I found this article a bit of a disjointed... if I understand Thorr's reasoning, a dark cloud regarding the football progam's ongoing viability is a key factor in the program's lack of success... and that talk of replacing football with "other" sports only feeds the dark cloud. But then st...

Re: BASEBALL - Beck Field Enhancement Moving Forward!

I am impressed by what they done have and plan to do. School needs to invest in a beautiful small ball park - it would be a real asset to URI and the State. It can go slowly and in phases just as the current improvements. Didn't some of the Bond money passed in the Nov election have funds for public...

Re: Rhody FB Insiders Club-JMU line up!!

Wholeheartedly agree, big improvement to facilities is the first step the administration needs to take as a signal that football is important and it important to the university. But ongoing, any sports program that URI endeavors to compete in has to be thought of just like the academic programs it o...

Re: Rhody FB Insiders Club-JMU line up!!

Up until last year UNH's football facilities were not as good as Meade - but that did not stop them from making the playoffs 12 straight years. So, yes facilities are nice but clearly it is more than that.

Re: Rhody FB Insiders Club-JMU line up!!

I don't see a fit at all with the Patriot League - I like the football they play - but not sure we fit in with a group of elite private academic institutions that think of themselves right below the Ivy League. How about being in a league with similar sized, same region, and presumably similarly fun...

Re: Bryant FB Coach resigns !?!?

URI like many State schools is in an enviable position, they offer a quality education at an "affordable" price, at least when compared to private schools, and especially true for students majoring in "STEM" studies. Look at the growth in enrollment and all the building happening...

Re: Bryant FB Coach resigns !?!?

I think being a private school absolutely allows them to move more quickly. I think they have absolutely aligned their sports programs as a key marketing tool for the school. Re: Charlie McKeeman not returning for Senior year

No single reason. For the the 5th year players it seems there is a sense or an understanding that their roles would be diminished. I can understand that, though it definitely impacts depth. I am more concerned about several players that I heard are leaving who are bigger contributors and would be ex...

Re: Bryant FB Coach resigns !?!?

Over 13 years Fine has a winning record 80-61. If a URI coach had a similar record he would be a "legend". As an example, Bob Griffin has a losing record over 18 years - 100-127-1. I think the point here is that Bryant wants more out of its football program - presumably NEC championships a...

Re: Coop.!!

For Coop to be a consistent threat the offense has to have other threats. Only then can a defense be kept off balance. Too often the defense knew what we were going to do, which makes for a tough slog. College football is about scoring lots of points - at least 4 TDs per game - and then hope the D c...

Re: FCS Playoffs

Last year Fleming canned Bleil and I was hopeful that a quality Offensive Coordinator was in the works. We all know what happened. To be fair Vazzano showed some promise and thus it is really important that a quality OC be brought in. And then there is the defense...ouch! Playoffs? Did someone say p...

Agreed he is a great threat to take it all the way. But overall his play or lack of play was disappointing. The two KO returns were great, but he had more poor returns than good returns, including multiple fumbles. He had great games against Brown and Elon, but not much of a factor in the other game...

We have been in a number of games over the past few years - some against good teams, but we never win these games. And in the case of Towson this year, we played not to lose with the predictable result.

I was surprised by how easily UNH beat Lehigh. Lehigh has won 8 straight and UNH had to win its final game - close win over Maine - to get in. McKeeman had one fumble this year - certainly at a bad time against Towson, and his penalty in this game was a 5 harder for illegal procedure- but yes he gets his share of penalties. It might be nice if the rest of the team played with his aggression!

the coaches definitely played not to lose, which is a loser strategy for a team that does not know how to win. Re: Rhody FB legion-Elon line up!!

I thought Fleming made the right move replacing Bleil. But not bringing in a real OC has been a disaster. Vazzano has real potential but their ability to coach this position is evident. I have yet to see any of the QBs look off receivers or make progressions. It is too often lock eyes on the first o...
